We Believe
Their love is unconditional
Pets are family, too! Can you imagine having to give up a sibling or parent because they needed care that you couldn’t afford? Well, that happens every day with pets and their people – people who are retired, have lost their jobs, are facing life’s challenges – and just need a little help to protect the special bond they share with their pet. Harley’s Hope is here to assist during those difficult times. We do this because at Harley’s Hope, we believe their love is unconditional.

Our Services
Keeping pets & people together
We at Harley’s Hope offer a variety of services designed to help keep pets in their existing homes. Our core services are financial assistance with major veterinary care, and additional help for seniors and their companions.
*Unfortunately we can’t pay pre-existing vet bills or expenses.
You can find resources for other types of assistance here.
Everyone needs a little help sometimes
If you have a pet in your life, you may find yourself in need of help at some point. Safety net agencies, like Harley’s Hope, exist specifically to provide that support. We do not do pet adoptions, we are not an animal rescue or shelter – we provide programs to keep your pet in their home. Why is this important? Besides preserving that amazing human-animal bond, too many animals continue to lose their homes every year, roughly 1 million alone due to their persons’ financial challenges. Rather than see these pets become homeless and add to the millions of pets entering the shelter system each year, we choose instead to focus on preserving existing relationships.

Surviving being hit by a car
Benji
Little Benji is only two months old, but has already experienced the trauma of being hit by a car and undergoing surgery. Benji’s person, Loren, a member of our local military, explains what happened. ” I fostered to adopt Benji. I’ve had him since he was 2 weeks old, bottle feeding him after he came into the organization from a homeless person in Pueblo.”
“Benji was on a leash AND was being supervised (when the accident happened). The road he got hit on is in downtown Colorado Springs. There are cars lined up and down the street (S Wahsatch Ave) and the person didn’t see me going through the crosswalk and I didn’t see her either because of the cars blocking my view. This has been a super rough time so thanks for getting back to me.”
Benji suffered a broken shoulder in the accident and underwent treatment @Planned Pethood International, but got to go home last Friday. Loren provided a brief update and the adorable photo featured here. ” Hi, I just wanted to message and thank you for everything. It is so greatly appreciated. Here’s Benji on the way home from the hospital! Thank you again. ” We thank Loren for fostering and adopting this sweet pup, thank the caring doctors and staff at PPI, and hope Benji makes a full recovery, and grows up to be a big, strong dog.
Rusty
Eye surgery for a stray.
Luna
Little Rusty was found living near a junkyard a couple of months back. Dominique’s husband brought the little sweetie home and the couple noticed that Rusty’s left eye didn’t appear normal. They took him to their veterinarian, who prescribed eye drops, but sadly the eye continued to degrade to the point where Rusty had to have his eye removed late last week. He’s young and will fully recover and adapt to his disability, but we can only imagine how painful it was to have an ulcerated eye.
Sophie and Romeo
Help provided for dogs while mom undergoes her own treatment
Molly
We’re asking you all to keep Michelle, a military veteran facing a very serious surgery next week, in your thoughts and good wishes. Michelle adopted two former abused rescue dogs, Sophie and Romeo, and has done her best to give them a wonderful home and life. But, now she is in need of help for these pups while she is hospitalized and in the fight for her own life.
HHF is once again partnering with the wonderful people from Lucky Pet At Home Pet Services , who referred Michelle to HHF. We are, as we have done many times in the past, contracting with Lucky Pet to care for Sophie, a 16 year old, who is battling arthritis and is deathly afraid of thunderstorms (white pup and yes, Michelle has tried the Thundershirt, which hasn’t worked for Sophie), and Romeo a 7 year old pup who was abused and has some of his own issues as a result.
The stories vary, but the smiles are all the same. When we’re able to keep people with their pets, they both thrive.

Helping a pet parent keep their pet
Baloo
Did you know that Harley’s Hope originally began as a way to help older pet parents? We still believe strongly that pets play a special role in the lives of folks in their third act. We had occasion to help one such person last week, when Rocky Mountain PACE (Rocky Mountain Health Care Services ) reached out for help for one of their clients.
Donna needed to move into assisted living and was fortunate to find one that accepted pets. Unfortunately, a pet deposit and a small, monthly pet fee were required – more than Donna could swing. HHF was able to step in to help keep Mellow, a 15 year old kitty, safe and sound with her person, Donna, by covering the deposit and 10 month’s worth of fees.

Infection and more treated
Aspen
This handsome fella is Miso, a 3 year old kitty who was recently hospitalized at Sploot Veterinary Care. Miso underwent successful treatment for an infection and cystitis – ouch! His person, Morgan, needed a bit of help getting her boy taken care of and, thanks to our supporters, they both got the help they needed.
Sarita
Older pup saved after tumor removed
Molly
Sarita is a sweet, 11 year old little pup, who just dodged a very big bullet. She was diagnosed as having a tumor on the spleen, often a sign of hemangiosarcoma, a nasty canine cancer that claimed our Harley. Her people, Marty and Brenda, are retired and adore this little dog. They had already spent a lot of money trying to get Sarita diagnosed, before they reached out to HHF for help with the surgery at Planned Pethood International. Fortunately, the procedure went well and Sarita received a good prognosis going forward.
